I've watched this business panic four times.

Cable was going to kill television advertising. Digital was going to kill photography. The internet was going to kill print, and then it did. Each time somebody stood on a stage and told everyone the old rules were finished. I was in the room for those. I'm in the room for this one.
Artist’s Statement
Ever since I began taking the ferry to Block Island, Rhode Island many years ago, I’ve been interested in the passengers onboard. They’ve always seemed like an interesting and diverse collection of
characters - a variety of sizes and shapes, and from many different walks of life. I’ve often wondered what their individual stories were, and in many instances, I’d imagine the scenarios that might fit the individuals I’d observe.
In early 2009, I decided to bring a digital camera and sketchbook with me on my ferry trips to begin to document what I was seeing and what I was thinking. Over time, these photos, sketches and imagined stories became the grist for a series of paintings entitled “ferry folk 2009”.
Each piece is made up of two sections on prepared Bristol paper. The portrait is executed in acrylics and each matching story is created with old-fashioned 42-point metal type set letter by letter and then inked with a roller and pressed onto the Bristol paper.
